CIMA reopens after Beryl passes

In the wake of the all-clear being sounded on Cayman, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) has announced that it will open for business as usual on Friday, 5 July 2024 from 8:30am – 5:00pm.

CIMA closed down as Hurricane Beryl passed to the South of the Cayman Islands, bringing high winds and storm surges.

The extent of the damage inflicted by Beryl on Cayman remains unknown as yet.

However, so far at least nine people have been reported dead and many more injured from Jamaica to Grenada. The island of Carriacou near Grenada is reported to have been very badly hit, with most of the buildings damaged or destroyed.

Beryl is now headed for the Yucatan Peninsular in Mexico, but continues to weaken.
