NCCIA to bid farewell to long-serving CEO Tom Adams
The North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA) has announced that its board of directors will meet on September 19th in Durham in what will be the last board meeting for Tom Adams (pictured), the association's long-serving president and chief executive.
Zach Almond, of Raleigh & Albemarle, will step up as president and chief executive at the conclusion of the meeting. Almond said, “I’m ready to hit the ground running.” The NCCIA said that with plans for a new initiative featuring a regular podcast on pertinent and timely captive issues and having nearly sold out sponsorships for the 2026 annual conference, he is already beginning to put his mark on the association.
According to the NCCIA, during Adam's tenure, the domicile & association experienced substantial growth, having progressed from legislation establishing the domicile to the 3rd largest US domicile by number of captives. Association president Lea Riddle believes the “NCCIA was fortunate to have someone of Tom’s stature in the national association community as our staff leader, and we believe that Zach Almond is the right individual to build on that foundation and lead us to the next level.”
Adams, in his last speech to the association, told attendees at the Annual Conference earlier this year that “the association has been positioned during 2025 with a new strategic directions document, updated branding, and left in a solid financial position.” Continuing, “Zach has the tools and support of the leadership he needs to be successful. I’m confident that he will make a great staff leader.”
The NCCIA board will consider a number of issues at its meeting, including adoption of an annual budget and conversations on where to hold the 2027 & 2028 annual conferences. For the 2026 meeting, the board previously approved moving the date of the conference from its current May date back to the third week in August and a Sunday-Wednesday format. (August 23rd-26th,2026).
