Sedgwick creates new carrier and captive unit
Sedgwick has launched a new carrier and captive solutions business aimed at providing claims and operational support to insurers, captives and the MGA and MGU markets.
The launch comes after the risk and claims administration group hired Jason Rogers last month to lead the new unit. Sedgwick said the new unit will provide a scalable operating model for carriers and alternative risk takers, including delegated authority and programme administrators.
Rogers will be supported by more than 1,000 professionals across claims adjusting, client services, data and analytics and operational infrastructure in his role.
The launch comes as Sedgwick looks to capitalise on growth in alternative risk transfer. The company cited figures showing the US MGA market reached $128bn of premium in 2025, up 12% year on year. Captive Review estimates global premium written by captives at $240 billion in 2025, up around 8% on 2024 premium.
Sedgwick stated this shift in risk management has required an adjustment in how these programmes operate, as more parties, transactions and compliance requirements are tied to every premium dollar.
“The industry has shifted. Capacity is increasingly viewed as a commodity, while operational execution has become the true differentiator,” said Rogers.
“The organisations that win will be those that can manage risk more effectively, leverage data more strategically and deliver a better experience for their stakeholders.”
Sedgwick said its captive offering will include claims administration, member instructions, board reporting, performance analytics and support for old-year or tail closure.
The wider unit will also provide carrier programmes, claims outsourcing and programme business services for MGAs and MGUs, alongside legacy claim solutions and accident and health benefits services.
“Sedgwick offers a broad range of solutions designed to help carriers, captives and MGAs/MGUs manage claims complexity, improve performance, control costs, and support long-term growth,” added Emily Fink, president, Growth Markets, who oversees the new practice.
“With the industry’s largest team of dedicated professionals, a claims dataset five times larger than that of the nearest competitor, and trusted strategic partnerships with more than 130 carriers, we can provide a level of depth this market hasn’t had before.”
