Speaker line-up announced for CICA 2016 International Conference

A number of captive industry experts are set to speak at this year’s Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) 2016 International Conference.

The conference will take place at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, Arizona, between 6-8 March. The speakers include Paul Wagner, vice president, alternative risk techniques, AGL Resources, and James Cortiglia, regional benefits executive, east region corporate life & pensions, Zurich Global Life, North America.

According to CICA the conference will help attendees mine the power of captives.

During his session, Wagner will expand on what he calls “the power drivers” which include open communication and transparency throughout the company.

“Everyone knows what’s going on. They see the results, and now they come to us with their challenges,” he said.

Companies considering using a captive, or those looking to brush up on fresh ideas for their captive, can also Think Big! says Patrick Theriault, managing director, Strategic Risk Solutions, of his session Soup to Nuts: Concept to Feasibility.

Theriault and fellow panelists Craig Brophy, principal and consulting actuary, Milliman, and Marcia Philpott, manager, insurance services, risk management, Salt River Project, will provide a complete picture from multiple perspectives.

“They’ll hear first-hand from a captive owner what Salt River Project went through and the decisions they made, as well as insights on understanding the feasibility study and why it’s more than an actuarial review,” said Theriault.

Presenters will also discuss up-front decision making and why engaging key decision makers early is important.

“Captives are a long-term decision, it’s not a one, two or even three-year process,” said Brophy.

“You’re looking at long-term risk financing, so it’s important to have good data and to work through any potential concerns up front.”
