VCIA board election results announced

The Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA)’s 2024 Annual General Meeting took place during the VCIA’s 39th Annual Conference last week, along with elections to the VCIA’s board.

Voting VCIA Members approved the 2023 AGM Minutes, 2023 Financial Statements, and elected the following individuals to the 2024-2025 VCIA board: Julie Bordo of PCH Mutual Insurance Company; Joe Carter of United Educators, re-elected to a second term; Aaron Ciullo of Marsh Captive Solutions; Gail Newman of Bright Horizons, re-elected to a second term; and Brenda Stewart of AIG Captive Solutions.

VCIA chief executive Kevin Mead offered his congratulations and spoke to the elected board members’ skill, expertise, and recognition in the broader captive industry. “I can speak for our staff and members and say VCIA is extremely excited to retain two outstanding captive professionals and bring on three more.”

The VCIA board also approved the following positions for the next year: Gail Newman, board chair; Joe Carter, board vice chair; Jason Palmer, board treasurer; and Melinda Young, board secretary.

On her new appointment, Newman, Bright Horizon’s vice president of risk management, commented, “My fellow board members have put a tremendous amount of trust in me, and it’s great inspiration to help lead VCIA to new heights.”

“I have a deep appreciation for the essential role captives play in supporting their members,” said Joe Carter, VCIA’s newly elected board vice chair and United Educators’ vice president of business development and UE Experience. “Helping lead VCIA is an opportunity to serve a wide spectrum of self-insurers across the country.”

The VCIA staff and board thanked the outgoing board members Andrew Baillie, Lawrence Cook, and Derick White for their work over the years. The next VCIA board meeting, planned for October, will focus on incorporating stakeholder feedback and building out VCIA’s Strategic Plan ahead of VCIA’s 40th anniversary in 2025.
