Acrisure Re bets on captives to drive next phase of growth
Acrisure Re has announced the integration of Acrisure’s Capital and Captives division. The integration brings more than 275 captive specialists across North America and Bermuda into a single platform, combining an established captive business with the capabilities of a leading specialist reinsurance broker.
This new division, Acrisure Re Capital and Captives, is led by Seth Denson, head of captives, reporting to Simon Hedley, global chief executive of Acrisure Re. According to the company the division further strengthens Acrisure Re’s market offering across three connected pillars: Reinsurance (including programs), Corporate Advisory through Acrisure Re Corporate Advisory and Solutions (ARCAS), and Capital and Captives. Together, supported by Acrisure Re’s global analytics and cat modelling expertise, these capabilities create a single, coordinated platform that differentiates the business from other reinsurance brokers.
“Capital and Captives is already a high-performing US and Bermudian business with significant scale,” Acrisure re said in a statement. “Integrating it into Acrisure Re is a deliberate strategic step to unlock the next phase of growth. Almost 70% of the business focuses on the US life & health (L&H) segment, where alternative and self-insured medical plans are among the fastest-growing areas of the US medical insurance market, and Acrisure is already a recognized leader. The remaining 30% operates across property & casualty (P&C), an area targeted for expansion within the Acrisure Re platform.
“In P&C, Acrisure Re Capital and Captives will pursue growth across group and single-parent captives, with a focus on actively sourcing opportunities, executing reinsurance placements, and generating new business for reinsurance trading partners. By combining captive structuring with reinsurance origination, Acrisure Re offers a distinctive capability versus conventional reinsurance brokers and captive managers. The division will also work closely with strategic issuing carriers to deliver end-to-end captive programs for market participants seeking self-insurance and alternative risk financing solutions.”
The platform is underpinned by an established segregated cell capability, enabling flexible, capital-efficient structures for L&H and P&C clients and supporting captive solutions tailored to risk and business objectives.
Acrisure Re Capital and Captives provides clients with comprehensive solutions across the full program lifecycle, including:
• Feasibility studies and strategic program design
• Captive formation, licensing, and regulatory coordination
• Ongoing management, governance, and actuarial support
• Segregated cell structure options
• Strategic issuing carrier relationships
• Reinsurance origination, placement, and capital markets access
• Integration within Acrisure Re’s reinsurance platform gives clients and markets access to structuring expertise, placement capabilities, and reinsurance trading relationships, combining the strengths of two established businesses into a more cohesive offering.
Hedley said: “Capital and captives is already a highly successful business, particularly in L&H, where it has built a leading position in one of the most dynamic growth segments in the US. Bringing it into Acrisure Re creates something highly compelling: the platform, relationships, and reinsurance capabilities of Acrisure Re, combined with deep captive expertise and a proven track record. In P&C, we see a significant runway ahead, both in growing our captive programs and in creating meaningful flow for our reinsurance trading partners. Seth is the right leader to drive this next chapter, and I am confident in the strength of the team we have assembled around him.”
Seth Denson, head of captives, Acrisure Re, added: “We are entering this integration from a position of strength. Our life & health captive business is already a proven leader, not by replicating existing market solutions, but by addressing needs the market has historically overlooked. That level of insight and innovation, combined with the capabilities of Acrisure Re, positions us to scale even further.
“In the property & casualty market, the opportunity is substantial. As we have done in life & health, we will take a proactive approach to creating new opportunities, strengthening relationships with key issuing carriers, and developing tailored insurance solutions across both group and single-parent captive structures. Our segregated cell infrastructure adds a level of flexibility that differentiates us in how we design and deliver solutions. As part of Acrisure Re, we are fully equipped to build and scale a market-leading platform.”
