Founded in 1947, Milliman provides a full range of actuarial, analytics and other consulting services to our clients. Our areas of expertise include Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance, Employee Benefits & Investment Consulting, Healthcare, and Life Insurance & Financial Services. Milliman has grown into a global firm of consultants and actuaries, with more than 60 offices in the United States and overseas. Owned and managed by our principals, our independence is a key enabler to providing impartial advice.
Milliman’s P&C practice is among the largest globally, providing actuarial, underwriting and claims consulting services to insurers, captive insurers, corporations and government agencies. We have performed studies on a wide variety of aspects of P&C insurance, for public and private clients, in virtually all jurisdictions of the United States.
Milliman has provided actuarial consulting services to over 300 captive insurance companies in 20 domiciles, including Vermont, Bermuda, Dublin, Barbados, Curacao, and the Cayman Islands. The services we have provided to our captive clients cover such diverse areas as evaluation of loss and expense reserves (including Statement of Actuarial Opinion or Loss Reserve Specialist Opinion as required), pricing and funding requirements, risk retention, insurance management and operations, financial analysis, claims consulting, and reinsurance issues. The services we offer are as diverse as our clientele, but all are custom-tailored to meet the unique requirements of each client.
Milliman has built an international reputation for work of the highest standards, particularly within the captive insurance market. We were once again selected as the Actuarial Firm of the Year by Captive Review at the 2018 U.S. Captive Services Awards, honoring the firm for demonstrating preeminent service in meeting clients’ needs. This was Milliman’s third time winning this prestigious award. In short, Milliman is recognized as a leader in the global captive insurance industry.
Although there are many qualified actuarial firms, we feel that no firm can match the combination of Milliman’s experience, high technical ability, and client service. We believe that Milliman distinguishes itself from its competitors as follows:
- Our unique corporate structure, which promotes individual responsibility for the integrity and quality of the work provided to clients.
- Our ability to communicate difficult concepts to diverse audiences, from Boards of Directors to regulators and all other interested parties. We explain situations and complexities so that our clients can make informed decisions.
- The experience of our people. Most of the senior consultants in our Boston office have more than 15 years of service with Milliman. We support the professional growth and development of all our employees and have very low turnover.
- Our unparalleled reputation. Milliman has built an international reputation for work of the highest standards. A stringent pre-release peer review process and day-to-day interactions of the senior consultants with the staff preparing the client work provide assurance that the highest quality standards are being maintained.
Milliman has served its clients for more than 70 years, and thanks to the vision of our founders and innovations by succeeding generations of principals, continues to be at the cutting edge of pioneering strategies, tools and solutions.
