Hawaii reveals more detail on its 262 captives

Hawaii had 262 registered captives at the end of June 2023, up from 255 at the end of 2022 and 251 at the end of 2021.

That is according to new figures released by the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division, which has also provided granular details about where Hawaii-domiciled captive insurance companies' parents are located and the parents' industries.

The report revealed it has 174 captive owners in western US states, 26 in central US states, and 20 in eastern US states. In addition, 41 captive insurance company owners were in the Asia/Pacific region, and one owner is in Europe.

By industry, 71 captive owners are in the construction/real estate industry, 54 are in telecommunications and manufacturing, 43 are in financial services, 34 are in the transportation and energy industry, 31 are in retail and other services, and 29 are in the healthcare field.
