Pinnacle University unveils the topics for this year’s virtual programme
Pinnacle Actuarial Resources has selected topics including usage-based insurance, machine learning and a hypothetical insurance product for professional baseball organisations in the programme for its eighth annual Pinnacle University, which this year will be conducted virtually.
Pinnacle University is a joint continuing education partnership of Pinnacle and several Midwest universities that was created in 2013 to familiarise college students with issues affecting the insurance industry. It gives students real-world experience in managing projects, collaborating with a team and delivering a professional presentation.
To prepare for Pinnacle University, actuarial students from participating colleges and universities work with Pinnacle’s professionals for several weeks to research a topic of actuarial and insurance-related significance. Teams then present their findings at the University, which is critiqued by a panel of actuaries from Pinnacle and other stakeholders.
Other topics may also be available as research options, Pinnacle said.
Erich Brandt, senior consulting actuary at Pinnacle, noted that graduates from previous years of Pinnacle University have gone on to have exciting careers as actuaries, both at Pinnacle and elsewhere.
Joe Herbers, managing principal at Piccacle, said the University programme “represents our commitment to the future of the actuarial profession and to the next generation of actuaries who maintain the program’s relevance and ensure its perpetuity.”
