Profile:

I have been a consulting actuary since 1977. Most of my work has been in life and health insurance. I began dealing with property/casualty coverages in captives about 5 years ago. I am a one-man show, so I do all of the work for all of my clients.

My primary work product is actuarial feasibility studies. These include description of the captive’s structure and development of it’s premium rates. In renewal years they also include experience analysis. These studies are generally filed with the insurance regulators in the captive’s jurisdiction of domicile. I then deal with any questions that arise from the regulators.

I also prepare annual reserve opinions on captives. I work with the captive managers and owners to estimate the reserve that is required.

My primary area of practice is medical insurance, and I work with several captives that assume medical insurance risk. Such risk is often stop-loss coverage for self-insured plans covering the owner’s employees. I’m also experienced in life insurance programs used in captives.
