20 years of ICCIE: unveiling a very special report
Here at Captive International, we are delighted to unveil a new, very special project that we have been working on this year – a publication dedicated to the 20th anniversary of ICCIE!
ICCIE – the International Center for Captive Insurance Education – is now one of the most important learning sources about the captive insurance market and sets a standard that many international observers can only admire.
Every year students of all ages and backgrounds study at ICCIE-accredited events, take ICCIE’s exams and receive ICCIE diplomas. It’s a qualification that is increasingly keenly sought out and admired.
In this publication, called Educating and Elevating the Captive Industry and produced in close partnership with ICCIE, we examine how the organisation came into existence, how its core programme has evolved over the years – and just why its work has become so important to the wider captive insurance industry.
To deliver this in-depth examination of ICCIE, we conducted in-depth interviews with many of the key figures that have shaped the organisation over the years – as well as past and present graduates, teachers and board members.
In particular, we include exclusive, in-depth interviews with Mitch Cantor, the executive director of ICCIE, who has been an ever-present figure at so many events across the globe, awarding certificates and providing congratulations and encouragement to ICCIE graduates all over the US and beyond.
In a foreword to the report, Mitch Cantor said: “The International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) exists because the industry demanded it, realising that a highly trained workforce would be key to its future. And now, with a large portion of the industry’s workforce poised to retire in the next decade, ICCIE is more important than ever—it is certainly a necessity to ensure that the next generation of captive insurance professionals is well prepared to continue to service and grow the industry.
“As we look forward to the next 20 years, let’s hope that the captive insurance industry and ICCIE both continue to grow by the same leaps and bounds that we have witnessed over the past 20 years.”
Robin Johnson, publisher of Captive International, added: “We are very proud of this project because we wanted to highlight the importance of education and talent in this industry and do justice to everything ICCIE represents.
“It’s important – no, vital – to stress the relevance of the work that ICCIE does. Every year, in conference after conference we hear the same fears from the lips of captive professionals – the difficulty in recruiting young blood, the retirement of so many old hands in the market and holes that they leave in terms of expertise and professionalism, the forebodings about the future. ICCIE addresses these fears by providing the educational facilities to raise the level of captive insurance excellent across the board.”
