Christine Brown has been confirmed as the new deputy commissioner of the captive insurance division at the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation.
Brown had held the role on an acting basis since Sandy Bigglestone’s departure to join SRS at the start of this year.
But Vermont DFR commissioner Kaj Samsom confirmed on LinkedIn that Brown, previously the DFR’s director of captive insurance, had now accepted the position on a permanent basis, to become Vermont’s lead captive regulator.
Like Brown, Bigglestone had also held the role of director of captive insurance when she succeeded Dave Provost in the role now held by Brown.
“Vermont is a global leader in captive regulation, and Vermont’s tradition of experienced professional leadership continues! These positions have an element of “carrying the torch” and leaving the organisation in a better place than you found it,” Samson said.
“All prior leaders in the captive division have achieved that and it is clear in my conversations and experience with Christine that she will as well! Thank you, Christine, for your commitment and willingness to serve Vermont, the captive industry and your division in this role!”
Brown has spent 19 years at the Vermont DFR, serving as an assistant director in the captive division before being promoted to director three and a half years ago.
